Dolphin Defender

In 1978, ocean conservationist and documentary filmmaker Hardy Jones set out to achieve something he only dreamed of as a boy - to reach out to dolphins in the wild, to swim with them in the open sea, to communicate with them and become their friend. He was told it couldn't be done, that no one had ever done it before. But he was undaunted.

More than twenty-five years later, Jones looks back on his journey of discovery. The exhilaration Jones experienced at first contact with wild dolphins soon turned to much darker emotions when he learned of the slaughter and capture of dolphins and their cousins, orca and pilot whales, in the waters of countries around the world. Using his filmmaking skills, he began to document and publicize their plight in the international media, changing public sentiment and policy.

To this day, he continues his quest to learn all he can about dolphins and their kind, swimming with them in the wild, meeting with experts and kindred spirits whose work supports and informs his own.
