While the dry season comes to the savannahs of southern Tanzania, lions and buffalo are brought face to face in a deadly struggle to survive. During the wet season, a time of abundance, they can afford to keep their distance - lions prey on wildebeest and buffalo make the most of succulent grass in the hills. But as the wet season ends, their options dry up like the river beds.

Wildebeest head north and the grasses wither forcing the buffalo and the lions to the water holes, where the battle between these two great adversaries begins. Smaller prey divided among an entire pride of lions offers in individual more than a light snack. To keep from starving, a pride must try to bring down a buffalo, prey that could feed them for days or cost them their lives. It takes tenacity, teamwork, and desperation, and more often than not, they walk away hungry. Yet the lions are experienced hunters, and sooner or later they will succeed. It is an ancient dance of life and death between intimate enemies.
