This land of eternal opposites and violent extremes is home to the largest geyser and the largest ice cap in the world, a place where glaciers sit on top of volcanoes, and enormous waterfalls sculpt the land. Half of each year, the land is frozen in ice, while bubbling hot springs bathe the hills in steamy mists. Virtually uninhabited, and still wonderfully wild, the island and the bounty of the surrounding sea make it a haven for birds of all kinds.
